Housing and Shelter

YWCA Cambridge is the city's largest affordable housing provider for single women through its 103-unit Tanner Residence and a 10-unit emergency family shelter. Our staff work with women and families in need of a supportive environment to achieve their individual goals.

  • Tanner Residence

    Affordable Housing for Women

YWCA Cambridge offers 103 individual units of single room occupancy (SRO) housing for single women at the Tanner Residence

Each room is furnished with a single bed, desk and chair, dresser, and a night stand. Shared bathrooms are located on every floor. Four shared kitchens are located throughout the building.

If you are looking for stable housing, you can apply for YWCA housing via the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA) website. Once you get on the website, click the red button "Application for CHA Housing Programs" and search for the SRO list. If you need help completing the application, please contact Ryan McClusky at Cambridge Multiservice Center. He can be reached at (617) 349-6338.

  • Family Shelter

Our 10-unit emergency family shelter, Renae’s Place, houses and supports families in finding stable housing.

Each family works with our case manager to assess where they are, set goals, and create steps toward achieving them.

Horizons for Homeless Children hosts a play space each night of the week in our shelter to give parents a chance to work on job applications, resume building, case management, and other tasks.
