Supervising Sa Bom: Andrew Cheever SBN, 5th Dan

Andrew Cheever Sa Bom Nim, Dan Bon 31841, has been practicing Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan since 1989 and has been instructing since 1996. He has twice completed the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa (master test) in Ramona, California and is currently a 5th Dan. Master Cheever was a member of the New England Form Team in 1996, 1997 and 1999. In 2006 he won first place in the National Ko Da Ja pre-sequenced sparring event with Steyer SBN. He has experience teaching men, women, and children of all ages and experience levels. He also has professional expertise in working with individuals with physical, cognitive and social handicaps. Master Cheever is a 2005 graduate of Temple University, and a 2011 graduate of the Tri-State College of Acupuncture. He is currently a licensed acupuncturist in Somerville.

Head Instructor: Master Jeff Mackey, 4th Dan

Master Jeff Mackey, Dan Bon 28089, is currently a 4th Dan. Master Mackey began his Soo Bahk Do training in January of 1985, and began teaching in 1988 for the North Attleboro YMCA. He moved the program to North Attleboro Park and Recreation from 1989 - 1998.  Master Mackey is also a First Aid/CPR/AED instructor. He worked at the YMCA for 35 years, and is currently the Aquatic Manager for the City of Boston. He has BA in Sports, Fitness and Leisure Studies from Salem State, and is also a Trained Massage Therapist.

Head Instructor: Jennie Kwo JKN, 3rd Dan

Jennie Kwo Jo Kyo Nim, Dan Bon 47234, is currently a 3rd Dan. She began her training with Steyer Sa Bom Nim in 2006. She received her assistant instructor certification in 2009 and her 1st Dan in 2010. She has won awards at both national and regional level competitions in both individual and team forms. As an active practitioner and leader in our studio, she enjoys training with students of all ages and levels. No other student has attended more classes year-to-year since 2007 than her.

Instructor: Mr. Ian Lee, 3rd Dan

Mr. Ian Lee, Dan Bon 47235, has been training with Steyer Sa Bom Nim since 2006. He reached 1st Dan in 2010, and was promoted to 3rd Dan in 2016.  Mr. Lee has competed nationally multiple times, and won second place with his team in team forms in 2013. In addition to this, he enjoys competing at the annual Scholarship Fundraiser Tournament in Somerville, and has won grand champion in both sparring and forms at that event throughout his training career. Mr. Lee is currently an undergraduate at Northeastern University. 

Instructor: Mr. Brennan Lee, 3rd Dan

Mr. Brennan Lee, Dan Bon 47236, started practicing Soo Bahk Do in 2006 at the age of 8 in at the Morse School after-school program. 10 years later, in 2016, he was awarded 3rd Dan. Mr. Lee started teaching the Saturday children's classes as a 16-year-old 2nd Dan.  As a 1st gup, Mr. Lee placed first in both forms and sparring at the 2011 national festival in Cherry Hill, NJ, and at the 2015 national festival in Danvers, MA, he placed first for sparring and second in forms.  Mr. Lee graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in 2015, and is an undergraduate student at MIT.

Instructor: Mr. Thomas Nikiper, 2nd Dan

Mr. Thomas Nikiper, Dan Bon 44328, joined the Moo Duk Kwan in 1999 as a student of Paul DelSordo Sa Bom Nim in Springfield, NJ.  He was promoted to 1st Dan in the fall of 2006.  Between 2003 and 2009, Mr. Nikiper was a teaching assistant for youth classes, as well as in the very first Tiny Tigers program in the Federation.  From 2009 to 2012, Mr. Nikiper was an active member of Tufts University’s Soo Bahk Do Club, under Neil Cohn Sa Bom Nim.  He officially joined BCSBD in 2014, and earned the rank of 2nd Dan in March of 2015.  Mr. Nikiper holds a BA and MA in developmental psychology from Tufts University and currently works as a child and adolescent mental health clinician.

Instructor: Patrick Powell JKN, 2nd Dan

Patrick Powell Jo Kyo Nim, Dan Bon 47233, began training in Soo Bahk Do in 2003 at age seven at the Fletcher Maynard Academy, and is BCSBD’s longest actively training student.  He began assisting classes as a red belt, and received certification as a Jo Kyo (assistant instructor) as a 1st gup in 2009.  Powell Jo Kyo Nim became a Dan Member in 2010, and received his 2nd Dan in the Spring of 2016.  He has received awards in both regional and national competitions, and was a member of the Region 1 Sparring Team in 2015.  Powell Jo Kyo Nim graduated from the John D. O’Bryant School, and is currently an undergraduate student at UMass Boston. He works as a computer salesman at Microcenter in Cambridge, and is certified in concussion first aid and CPR.
