Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Our three week CIT program provides campers entering 8th & 9th grade with an opportunity to develop the leadership skills necessary to become a Summer Day Camp Counselor.
This is a three-week education process, where CITs will train and work together and participate in camp activities as a group while learning the role and responsibility of a counselor. During this time, they will be attending educational training sessions and also shadow counselors to learn and simulate camp activities to prepare them for counselor responsibilities.
This program is designed to create leaders, positive role models and caring staff members that will be great additions to the Marshfield Branch, YWCA Cambridge staff for many years to come.
CIT 1: $375.00
Counselor-in-Training First Year (CIT 1) is a three week training program geared towards creating team building and exploring different camp activities offered to campers. Within the CIT 1 program, teens will learn skills necessary become a safe, strong, empathetic, and creative Marshfield Branch, YWCA Cambridge Day Camp counselor. Working closely with the camp director and activities counselor, CIT 1s work to increase their responsibilities during everyday and special events and activities throughout the summer. This first year CIT program has a mandatory information based training week July 3-7; then, an additional two weeks with embedded support to apply their new CIT skills. The last two weeks of the program is chosen by the CIT and their family.
CIT 2: $375.00
Counselor-in-Training Second Year (CIT 2) is a three week training program that focuses on increasing the skills necessary to potentially become a Junior Counselor at the Marshfield Branch, YWCA Cambridge’s Day Camp. CIT 2s spend most of the day immersed into the group setting, developing the skills necessary to become a safe, nurturing, confident, knowledgeable, and creative Day Camp counselor. Working closely with the camp director and activities counselor, CIT 2s work to increase their responsibilities to independently complete the responsibilities during daily and specially designed camp based activities. While job placement is not guaranteed, those that complete the CIT 2 program are well on their way to understand the role of a counselor, specific to our Day Camp. CIT 2s are bridging their role to the Junior Counselor position here. The program has a mandatory information based training week June 26-30, plus two additional weeks with campers to apply their skill set. The 2 remaining weeks of the program are chosen by the CIT and their family, so it fits well into their summer scheduling.
